North of the 45th

June 20 – August 1, 2025

Reception: TBA; Juror’s Talk: TBA

The North of the 45th art exhibition highlights artists living in this upper Midwest region in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Jurors look through hundreds of artworks and select artworks to create an exhibition. No two presentations are the same. The North of the 45th is the latitude, line, or the halfway point between the equator and the north pole. Crossing this line is often associated with being “up north.”

This year’s featured artists to be announced soon.

This year’s juror is Rebecca Heidenberg. Heidenberg is a curator, cultural producer, filmmaker, and co-founder of the Minneapolis gallery Dreamsong. Heidenberg earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004 and an MA from The New School in 2016. Beyond implementing a full exhibition program, Rebecca collaborates with her partner to produce Dreamsong’s public programming, including talks, performances, and screenings. They have participated in art fairs including Frieze Los Angeles, Expo Chicago, and The Armory Show. Heidenberg’s first feature-length film, Queens of the Revolution (2020), is a portrait of Mejunje, a cultural center in Santa Clara that paved the road for LGBTQ+ rights in Cuba. The film screened at several festivals, including the Harlem International Film Festival, Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, and Miami Film Festival. In 2021, Heidenberg launched Twin Cities Art Week, an annual celebration of contemporary art in Minneapolis and St.  Twin Cities Art Week features events at over twenty venues, from small artist-run spaces to leading galleries and major institutions, including the Walker Art Center.
